Isle Of Whithorn
July 1927: The Isle of Whithorn in Dumfries and Galloway. The isle was the first landing place of St Ninian who brought Christianity to Scotland and founded the countrys first monastery in AD 397 at the nearby town of Whithorn. Remains of walls built around AD 397 have been found among the ruins of a 12th-century priory and are thought to be from St Ninians monastery which was called Candida Casa (meaning White House).
