Us-Hubble-Eskimo Nebula
This Hubble Space Telescope image taken after a successful December, 1999 servicing mission and released by NASA 24 January, 2000 shows a planetary nebula, the glowing remains of a dying, sunlike star nicknamed the " Eskimo" Nebula(NGC 2392) because when viewed through ground-based telescopes it resembles a face surrounded by a fur parka. The planetary nebula began forming about 10, 000 years ago, when the dying star began flinging material into space. The Eskimo Nebula is about 5, 000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Gemini. AFP PHOTO/NASA / AFP PHOTO / NASA

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the mesmerizing beauty of the "Eskimo". Nebula (NGC 2392), a planetary nebula located approximately 5,000 light-years away from Earth in the constellation Gemini. Taken by the Hubble Space Telescope after a successful servicing mission in December 1999, this image was released by NASA on January 24,2000. The Eskimo Nebula earned its nickname due to its striking resemblance to a face surrounded by a fur parka when observed through ground-based telescopes. This celestial wonder is actually the glowing remnants of a dying star similar to our sun. Over the course of about 10,000 years, as it neared its end, this star began expelling material into space, forming what we now see as this breathtaking planetary nebula. The square-shaped frame perfectly captures every intricate detail and vibrant colors present within this cosmic masterpiece. The Hubble Space Telescope's unparalleled precision allows us to witness these awe-inspiring phenomena with unprecedented clarity and depth. As an AFP photo release from Agence France-Presse (AFP), this print serves as a testament to humanity's insatiable curiosity about our universe and our relentless pursuit of knowledge beyond our planet's boundaries. It reminds us that even in vastness lies extraordinary beauty waiting to be discovered and admired.
