The Booklovers Britain: Yarmouth, LNER poster, 1933
Poster produced for the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail travel to the Norfolk coastal resort of Yarmouth, where part of Charles Dickenss (1812-1870) novel, David Copperfield, was set. The illustration shows a scene from the book, with the young characters of David Copperfield and Little Emily seen in front of the Peggotty family home, which is formed from a disused boat. Artwork by Austin Cooper, a Canadian who studied art in Cardiff and Arbroath. He began his career as a commercial artist in Montreal, but returned to London in 1922 and designed posters for LNER, Indian State Railways and London Transport. His first show was held at the London Gallery in 1948
