The first excerpt, from the Columbus Republic Extra 21 July 1861, reports that General Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregards horse was shot from underneath him, and that nine hundred Union troops and sixty Confederate troops were killed. A second dispatch relates that Northern reports claimed the engagement at Manassas Junction was a Union victory. A third dispatch, reported 22 July from Louisville, Kentucky, and Washington, D.C. cites a Confederate victory. Possibly printed as an extra version of the Richmond Whig; heading states " Whig and Observer-- Extra."
