Carroll Richard Levis (March 15, 1910 to October 17, 1968) was a talent scout, impresario and television and radio personality. Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and brought up in Vancouver, he moved to England in 1935 and joined the BBC, where he hosted a regular programme showcasing unknown performers discovered through his touring stage show. In 1939 he appeared in the film " Discoveries". In 1948 he starred in the British mystery film Brass Monkey, in which he played himself. He also had an acting role in The Depraved (1957).
In 1945, Levis was featured in a concert show which entertained troops of the First Canadian Army. In the 1950s he hosted a talent competition for young people called The Carroll Levis Discovery Show. In 1961 he removed himself from the public eye, only to attempt a return in 1968 after a four-year struggle with a stomach ailment. He died the same year.

At 58 years old, Levis exudes an air of wisdom and experience as he holds auditions for a nationwide talent hunt. With a staggering 101 acts to choose from during the four-hour long procession, Levis carefully handpicked 70 talented individuals who will grace the stage on different nights next week as part of a mesmerizing variety bill. This grand spectacle will unfold not only in Stockport but also in 15 other towns across the country. The performers who receive thunderous applause will earn their spot in a prestigious London final scheduled for October. Born on March 15th, 1910 in Toronto and raised in Vancouver, Carroll Richard Levis embarked on an illustrious career as a talent scout and impresario after moving to England in 1935. His remarkable journey included hosting BBC programs that showcased undiscovered talents discovered through his touring stage show. Although health issues forced him into seclusion starting from 1961 until his attempted comeback four years later due to stomach ailments, Carroll Levis left an indelible mark on the world of entertainment before passing away later that year. In this evocative image taken by Dennis Hussey on April 24th, 1968 outside The Davenport Theatre itself stands testament to Carroll Levis' enduring legacy alongside two hopeful auditionees eagerly awaiting their chance at stardom.
