Bertrand Russell. Caricature of the British mathematician and philosopher Bertrand Arthur William Russell (1872-1970), the third Earl of Russell. Russell is considered one of the founders of analytical philosophy. His work the Principia Mathematica (1910-1913), with Alfred Whitehead, is considered a milestone in mathematical logic. During World War I he was an active pacifist. He wrote extensively on philosophy and education, founding a progressive school with his second wife.
