This print captures the enchanting Anna Sobechshanskaya as Odette in Julius Reisinger's original production of Swan Lake. Taken by a talented Russian photographer in the 19th century, this image showcases the timeless beauty and grace of one of ballet's most iconic characters. Swan Lake, composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky between 1875 and 1876, tells the haunting tale of Odette, a princess cursed to live as a swan by an evil sorcerer. The original production premiered at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow on March 4,1877, with Reisinger serving as its choreographer. The ballet has since undergone various adaptations but is most commonly based on Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov's revival from 1895. This influential staging was first performed at St. Petersburg's Mariinsky Theatre on January 15,1895. In this mesmerizing photograph, Sobechshanskaya embodies Odette's vulnerability and ethereal presence through her delicate yet powerful movements. Her expressive eyes convey both sorrow and hope as she portrays the tragic swan princess trapped in her avian form.
