EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the grandeur of LCC-LFB Streatham Fire Station, located at 8 Mitcham Lane in South West London, in the early 1900s. Built by the London County Council in the last year of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade before its name was changed to the London Fire Brigade, this Edwardian-era fire station proudly served the Streatham community from 1905. The red brick building, adorned with intricate stone detailing and large arched windows, exudes a sense of strength and protection. The fire engine, positioned in front of the station, is a testament to the vital role the firefighters played in safeguarding the lives and properties of local residents. The LCC-LFB Streatham Fire Station, a symbol of the commitment and dedication of the London Fire Brigade, operated until 1971 when it was closed and replaced by the new Norbury fire station. This photograph offers a glimpse into the rich history of firefighting in London during an era of significant change.
