The London Underground (also known as the Tube or simply the Underground) is a public rapid transit system serving a large part of Greater London and parts of the home counties of Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex.
The system serves 270 stations and has 402 kilometres (250 mi) of track, 52% of which is above ground. The network is considered the oldest rapid transit system, incorporating the worlds first underground railway, the Metropolitan Railway, which opened in 1863 and is now part of the Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines; and the first line to operate underground electric traction trains, the City & South London Railway in 1890, now part of the Northern line

EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage print captures the essence of England's holiday attractions in the early 20th century. Created by Charles Paine, a renowned artist, this poster art was commissioned by the Underground Electric Railway Company of London in 1921. The artwork promotes two popular destinations for tourists and locals alike: Regents Park and Camden Town. Regents Park, known for its lush greenery and serene atmosphere, offers an idyllic escape from bustling city life. Visitors can book their tickets to explore this picturesque park or venture further into Camden Town, a vibrant neighborhood famous for its eclectic markets and cultural diversity. The London Underground plays a significant role in connecting these attractions with the rest of Greater London. As one of the oldest rapid transit systems globally, it boasts an extensive network spanning 270 stations and over 400 kilometers (250 miles) of track. This underground railway system revolutionized transportation when it introduced electric traction trains in 1890. In this print, Paine combines elements of nature with urban charm by featuring a penguin as a whimsical representation of the zoo housed within Regents Park. The poster serves as both an advertisement for these holiday hotspots and a testament to Paine's artistic talent that has stood the test of time.
