Spektr-R space telescope launch
Spektr-R space telescope launch. Zenit-3F rocket launching from site 45 (LC-45) at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, with the Russian Spektr-R radio space telescope on board, being taken into Earth orbit. The space telescope is in the faring with the Fregat upper stage on top of the rocket. This launch took place on 18 July 2011, at 02:31 UTC. Spektr-R, part of the Radioastron programme, is studying objects in radio wavelengths with a resolution far higher than previous telescopes. This high resolution is achieved by combining orbital observations with ground-based telescopes and using interferometry methods
