Hubble servicing
Spacewalk. European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Claude Nicollier performing an extravehicular activity (EVA or spacewalk). He is using a specially-made power tool to help him service the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). The photograph was taken from the cargo bay of the space shuttle Discovery during mission STS-103 (19-27 December 1999). During this mission the HSTs computer, gyroscopes and tape recorder were all replaced. Also replaced was one of the HSTs Fine Guidance Systems (FGSs) which allows the telescope to locate and view its targets. This was the third mission to service the HST since it launch in 1990
