Set of four engraved emblems. At top left a woman wearing the five planets around her head as stars walks across a lake accompanied by the Sun and the Moon. At top right the gods of the seven planets are seen in a cave - in the foreground are the Moon, Sun and Venus while on the mounds behind are stood Jupiter, Mars, Saturn and Mercury. At lower left stand a man and woman supporting an Earth globe within a triangle. At lower right a winged old man sits warming himself by a fire while children representing the Moon and Sun play at his feet. Such emblems were drawn to symbolise the mystical nature of the alchemists art and to point the way toward making the Philosophers Stone.
