Brigitte Bardot 1961 posing for photographers in Italy for a final scene in

Brigitte Bardot 1961
posing for photographers in Italy for a final scene in the film Private Lives
In France the film was released as " La Vie Privee", but for its British and American release it was renamed " A Very Private Affair" (1962). The film was a clearly autobiographical turn by Bardot as a young celebrity unable to cope with the pressures of stardom. Although only released in 1962 the film was intended as Bardots swansong. However she was pesuaded not to retire and went on making films up until 1973. In this period she made " Le Mepris" (1963). Although it received mixed reviews at the time the film is now recognised as a classic and probably Bardots best. However, its original failure led to Bardot being replaced as Europes most popular actress by Sophia Loren.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Brigitte Bardot, the iconic French actress and timeless beauty, strikes a pose for photographers in Italy during the filming of 'Private Lives' in 1961. This particular scene captures her final moments on set, as she portrays a young celebrity struggling to cope with the overwhelming pressures of stardom. Originally released in France as 'La Vie Privee', this deeply personal film was later renamed 'A Very Private Affair' for its British and American audiences. Despite intending it to be her swansong, Bardot's undeniable talent and allure persuaded her not to retire from acting. She continued making films until 1973, leaving an indelible mark on cinema history. One of her most notable works during this period was 'Le Mepris' (1963), which initially received mixed reviews but has since been recognized as a cinematic masterpiece and arguably Bardot's finest performance. However, despite her immense success and enduring legacy, Bardot faced competition from fellow European actress Sophia Loren. Following the initial failure of 'Le Mepris', Loren rose to become Europe's most popular actress at that time. This print serves as a nostalgic reminder of Brigitte Bardot's influential presence in the entertainment industry during the 1960s—a true icon whose fame transcended borders.
