This photograph captures William Snowdon Robson, Baron Robson (1852-1918), an English lawyer, judge, and Liberal politician, in the year 1906 during his tenure as the Solicitor General. Robson's legal career began in the mid-1870s, and he quickly rose through the ranks to become a Queen's Counsel in 1890. In 1892, he was appointed a judge of the County Court, and in 1895, he was made a Baron of the Exchequer. Robson's political career began in earnest in 1885 when he was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Newcastle-under-Lyme. He served in this capacity until 1892, when he was appointed as a judge. However, he returned to politics in 1900, this time as the MP for Leeds West. He held this seat until 1910. As Solicitor General, Robson played a crucial role in the administration of justice and the implementation of government policy. He was a key figure in the Liberal government led by H.H. Asquith and was known for his expertise in legal matters. The photograph shows Robson in formal attire, with a serious expression, reflecting the gravity of his role.
