Baron Commons Judge Lawyer Liberal Robson Snowdon

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures William Snowdon Robson, Baron Robson (1852-1918), an English lawyer, judge, and Liberal politician, in the year 1906 during his tenure as the Solicitor General. Robson's legal career began in the mid-1870s, and he quickly rose through the ranks to become a Queen's Counsel in 1890. In 1892, he was appointed a judge of the County Court, and in 1895, he was made a Baron of the Exchequer. Robson's political career began in earnest in 1885 when he was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Newcastle-under-Lyme. He served in this capacity until 1892, when he was appointed as a judge. However, he returned to politics in 1900, this time as the MP for Leeds West. He held this seat until 1910. As Solicitor General, Robson played a crucial role in the administration of justice and the implementation of government policy. He was a key figure in the Liberal government led by H.H. Asquith and was known for his expertise in legal matters. The photograph shows Robson in formal attire, with a serious expression, reflecting the gravity of his role. Robson's political career was marked by his commitment to social reform and his belief in the importance of the rule of law. He was a strong advocate for the extension of the franchise and the improvement of working conditions for the working class. Robson's legacy continues to be felt in British politics and the legal profession, and this photograph serves as a reminder of his significant contributions to both fields.
