White Star Line, RMS Titanic, List of First Class Passengers
White Star Line, RMS Titanic. Rare First Class passenger list that survived the sinking in the pocket of George Brereton. He was a professional gambler, which was probably the reason he was aboard Titanic: he would have been on the lookout for wealthy passengers to play against. He joined Titanic in Southampton on 10 April 1912, First Class Ticket No. 111427. At the time Titanic struck the iceberg he was in the First Class smoking room, quite possibly ?at work? playing cards. It has been suggested that he escaped Titanic in lifeboat 9. Printed over twenty pages, it lists the First Class passengers on board. Interestingly Brereton has highlighted Charles Hays and written ?Millionaire? next to his name. These lists were given to First Class passengers and contained all the information they would need on board, from wireless telegraph rates to the hire of steamer chairs and blankets. Also included is a list of Titanic?s sailings for 1912. The passenger list was acquired by Ken Schultz directly from Brereton?s great niece, complete with handwritten provenance and the WWII War Bonds envelope it was kept in. 7ins. 5ins. Date: 1912

EDITORS COMMENTS
This rare and historic photograph showcases a First Class passenger list from the White Star Line's RMS Titanic, which miraculously survived the sinking of the famed ocean liner in 1912. The list was discovered in the pocket of George Brereton, a professional gambler, who managed to escape Titanic in lifeboat 9. Brereton joined Titanic in Southampton on 10 April 1912, holding First Class Ticket No. 111427. At the time of the collision with the iceberg, he was likely in the First Class smoking room, possibly engaged in his profession, seeking out wealthy passengers to play against. The extensive list, printed over twenty pages, contains the names, cabin numbers, and other vital information of all First Class passengers aboard the Titanic. Brereton has personally highlighted the name of Charles Hays, whom he marked as a 'Millionaire.' These passenger lists were essential resources for First Class passengers, providing them with all the necessary information they would need during their voyage, from wireless telegraph rates to the hire of steamer chairs and blankets. The passenger list was acquired by Ken Schultz directly from Brereton's great niece, complete with a handwritten provenance and the WWII War Bonds envelope it was kept in. Measuring 7 inches by 5 inches, this significant piece of maritime history offers a unique glimpse into the lives of the privileged passengers aboard the Titanic, as well as the extraordinary tale of survival of its discoverer, George Brereton.
