This fearsome creature was said to terrorize the people of Lycia, breathing fire and poison, and devouring livestock and humans indiscriminately. Bellerophon, a legendary hero, was tasked with slaying the Chimera. He rode the winged horse Pegasus and used a spear tipped with the poisonous blood of the Hydra to finally defeat the monster. The Chimera's demise marked the end of its reign of terror, but its legend continued to live on, inspiring countless works of art, literature, and imagination.
