EDITORS COMMENTS
Step back in time with this photograph of the Prince Alfred Public House in Bermondsey, London, taken in the 1960s. The image showcases the corner view of this historic pub, which was once a beloved local watering hole for the community. The Prince Alfred, located at SE1 3AU, was a long-standing establishment, with a trading record dating back to 1938 and 1961. The building, which is now demolished, was a proud part of the Charington and Company Limited's portfolio. Charington and Company, a well-known name in the beer and brewing industry, had a significant presence in the Bermondsey area. The Prince Alfred Public House, with its distinctive facade and inviting sign, was a familiar sight for generations of Londoners. The 1960s were an era of change, and unfortunately, the Prince Alfred was not spared. By July 2018, the pub had been demolished, leaving behind only memories and photographs like this one. This image offers a glimpse into the past, transporting us back to a time when the pub was a vibrant hub of social activity and community spirit. The Prince Alfred Public House may no longer exist, but its legacy lives on through photographs like this one. They serve as a reminder of the rich history and character of Bermondsey and the role that pubs like the Prince Alfred played in shaping the local community.
