The Lookdown, also known as the Silver Moonfish or Argentee, is a small, silver-colored fish with a quadrangular body and a flat head. It is named for its ability to lie on its side on the ocean floor, blending in with the sandy bottom. The damaged Lookdown in this engraving displays a torn dorsal fin, likely the result of an encounter with a predator or other environmental factor. The Atlantic Spadefish, or Argyreiosus, is a common fish in the Atlantic Ocean, characterized by its elongated, spade-shaped pectoral fins.
