Miss Iris Tree (Mrs Curtis Moffatt) wiht her son, 1920

Iris Tree (27 January 1897 13 April 1968) was an English poet, actress and artists model, described as a bohemian, an eccentric, a wit and an adventuress. Pictured in a spread of pictures for The Tatler with her son Ivan. The Tatler incorrectly calls him Anthony, whereas Anthony was actually the name of the eldest son of Iriss sister Felicity. Iris was the youngest daughter of the actor, Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree and sister to Viola and Felicity. Among many things she was famous for her bobbed pageboy haircut, which can be plainly seen in these photographs. Date: 1920

EDITORS COMMENTS
Miss Iris Tree, the English poet, actress, and artist's model, poses with her young son Ivan in this charming photograph from 1920. Iris, born on January 27, 1897, was the youngest daughter of the renowned actor Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree and sister to Viola and Felicity. Known for her unconventional spirit, Iris was described as a bohemian, an eccentric, a wit, and an adventuress. Her distinctive bobbed pageboy haircut, which can be clearly seen in these images, was a reflection of her non-conformist nature and a symbol of the modernity of the 1920s. Despite the error in The Tatler's caption, which incorrectly identifies Ivan as Anthony, the eldest son of Iris's sister Felicity, this photograph captures a tender moment between mother and child. Iris's career as a poet, actress, and model placed her at the heart of the vibrant cultural scene of the 1920s, and her image continues to captivate us today as a reminder of this era's artistic and social history.
