EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph from the annals of Swinging Sixties London, we find ourselves transported to the GPO Tower in May 1966, where a party thrown by the hip and happening magazine, London Life, was in full swing. The newly-built GPO Tower, which would later become known as the BT Tower, offered a unique and breathtaking view of the city, and around 150 personalities from the worlds of art, finance, publishing, advertising, and show business were invited to be among the first to witness this stunning panorama. The image captures the essence of an era defined by cool, stylish people and their unbridled enthusiasm for life. Among the guests, we spot renowned photographer David Bailey, Chrissie Shrimpton (sister of the iconic model Jean Shrimpton), and Mick Jagger, the charismatic frontman of the Rolling Stones. Dressed to impress, they mingle and laugh, seemingly oblivious to the world below as they revel in the moment. This photograph is a testament to the vibrant and dynamic social scene of 1960s London, where creativity, glamour, and innovation were the order of the day. It serves as a reminder of a time when London was at the forefront of cultural and artistic movements, and where the city's most influential personalities came together to celebrate life, art, and the future. The GPO Tower party, a moment in history captured by the lens of a talented photographer, remains an iconic representation of the Swinging Sixties, and a reminder of a time when London was truly the coolest city in the world.
