GLC-LFB - Dual purpose pump fire engine
The GLC-LFB was created on 1 April 1965. A series of photos was commissioned of each type of fire engine, either within or absorbed into the enlarged London Fire Brigade. The pump from Chiswick fire station (D25) seen here is a Dennis diesel appliance. Unusually the fire engine is also carrying a first floor ladder (painted white at one end) which was carried on a pump escape

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases a historic GLC-LFB Dual Purpose Pump Fire Engine, specifically the Dennis diesel appliance from Chiswick Fire Station (D25), which was absorbed into the enlarged London Fire Brigade on 1 April 1965. The image captures the essence of the 1960s with its vintage fire engine design and the iconic red fire engine body. What sets this appliance apart from others is its unique dual purpose, as indicated by its name. The fire engine is not only equipped with a powerful pump for extinguishing fires but also carries a first floor ladder at the rear. The ladder, painted white at one end, is an essential tool for firefighters to access upper floors or reach great heights during rescue operations. The Dennis diesel engine, with its robust design and impressive capabilities, was a common choice for fire services during the 1960s. The fire engine's powerful pump and the versatility of carrying a ladder made it an indispensable asset for the London Fire Brigade. This photograph is a testament to the rich history of the London Fire Brigade and the evolution of firefighting vehicles. It transports us back in time, allowing us to appreciate the dedication and hard work of the brave firefighters who have served and continue to serve their communities.
