Born Gabrielle-Charlotte Reju on March 10, 1856, in Paris, she adopted the stage name Rejane and quickly rose to fame as a leading comedienne and soubrette in French theatre. Rejane's acting career began in 1876 when she made her debut at the Théâtre du Vaudeville in Paris. Her unique combination of grace, wit, and comedic timing made her a favorite among audiences, and she went on to perform in numerous productions at prestigious theatres throughout Europe.
