Ceremonial Ceremony Coronation Finger Monarch Monarchy Placing Receiving Ring Ruby Sceptre Sceptres Westminster

EDITORS COMMENTS
A Moment of Regal Grandeur: The Coronation of King George V, 1911 This evocative image captures a pivotal moment during the coronation ceremony of King George V, held at Westminster Abbey in London on June 22, 1911. As the Archbishop of Canterbury looks on with solemn reverence, he places the Ruby Coronation Ring onto the fourth finger of the new monarch's right hand. This ring, an ensign of kindly dignity and defense of the Catholic Faith, symbolizes the King's sacred commitment, sealed with the Spirit of promise. The regal atmosphere is further emphasized by the presentation of the Sceptres. The Sceptre with the cross, an ensign of kindly power and justice, and the Sceptre with the dove, a rod of equity and mercy, are placed into the hands of the King. These symbols of authority and compassion underscore the dual nature of monarchical rule, balancing power and mercy. The coronation of King George V marked the beginning of a new era for the British monarchy, and this photograph stands as a testament to the rich history and tradition of the institution. The ceremony, held in the hallowed halls of Westminster Abbey, brought together the people of the United Kingdom to witness the formal investiture of their new sovereign, creating a sense of unity and pride that would endure for generations.
