However, the Ju-290's military capabilities extended beyond transport, as it was also equipped with defensive armament and could be used as a heavy bomber. Its large bomb bay could carry up to 14,000 pounds of ordnance, making it a formidable weapon against Allied targets. Despite its impressive capabilities, the Ju-290 entered service too late to make a significant impact on the outcome of World War II. Only a few hundred were produced before production was halted in 1945.
