Ascot - The Royal Procession

Stylised illustration showing the traditional carriage drive by the King and Queen down the course at Royal Ascot, one of the highlights of the summer social calendar. Ascot is generally held a fortnight after the Derby and dates from the reign of Queen Anne. The first race was won on 11 August 1711, by a horse owned by the Duke of St. Albans, son of Charles II and Nell Gwynne. The Royal Procession up the course on Gold Cup Day was instituted by George IV in 1823. One of the most famous sights of the Season, the King and/or Queen, who are in residence at Windsor, drive the length of the course in a four-horse landau driven by postillions in Ascot livery and accompanied by the Master and Huntsmen of the Royal Buckhounds. Date: 1927

Ascot: The Royal Procession - A Stylised Illustration of a Timeless Tradition This stylised illustration transports us back to the grandeur and elegance of Royal Ascot in 1927. One of the most anticipated events on the summer social calendar, Ascot is a time-honoured tradition that dates back to the reign of Queen Anne in the early 18th century. The first recorded race took place on 11 August 1711, won by a horse owned by the Duke of St. Albans. The Royal Procession, a highlight of the season, was instituted by King George IV in 1823. Depicted in this illustration, the monarch and queen, residing at Windsor Castle, make their regal drive down the course in a magnificent four-horse landau. Accompanied by postillions in Ascot livery and the Master and Huntsmen of the Royal Buckhounds, this iconic sight is a testament to the rich history and heritage of this esteemed event. The Royal Procession is a symbol of the opulence and pageantry that has come to define Royal Ascot. As the carriage makes its way down the course, the anticipation builds for the day's races, with spectators dressed in their finest attire, eager to witness the thrilling competition unfold. This moment in time stands as a reminder of the enduring allure and tradition of this quintessentially British event.
