EDITORS COMMENTS
A Royal Family Group, 10 March 1863" is a captivating print that captures a significant moment in British history. Taken by the talented artists E&S Woodbury, this image showcases the esteemed members of the royal family on the day of the wedding between the Prince and Princess of Wales. In this remarkable photograph, we see an assemblage of prominent figures including the Prince and Princess of Wales, Princess Alice and Prince Louis of Hesse, Princess Helena, The Queen herself, Princess Beatrice, and even a bust of Prince Albert at its center. It is worth noting that Queen Victoria mourned her beloved husband's untimely death for the remainder of her life; hence she appears dressed entirely in black attire. Atop left stands the future King Edward VII alongside his bride-to-be, Princess Alexandra. Their presence adds an air of anticipation to this already illustrious gathering. This particular print was featured in Sir Herbert Maxwell's book "Sixty Years A Queen: The Story Of Her Majesty's Reign" published around 1897 by Harmsworth Bros Limited in London. The photograph serves as a poignant reminder not only of this joyous occasion but also pays homage to Prince Albert's memory. With its timeless black-and-white composition and historical significance spanning over six decades during which Queen Victoria reigned supreme over Britain and India as Empress Consort - it truly encapsulates an era long gone yet forever cherished.
