Reception of the Robert Brothers by the Prince of Ghistelles in 1784, (1887). French balloonists Noel and Jean Robert, recieved by Philippe-Alexandre-Emmanuel-Francois-Joseph de Ghistelles at his chateau at Beuvry. On 1 December 1783 Jacques Charles and one of the brothers made the first manned ascent in a hydrogen balloon, lifting off from the Tuileries Gardens in Paris.
