EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases HRH Prince Albert, a prominent figure of the 19th century. Painted by the talented artist W Holl, this portrait captures the essence of Prince Albert's regal presence. Born in Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in 1819, he became the beloved husband and consort of Queen Victoria, ruling over the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Prince Albert held a unique title as the only husband to a British queen regnant who formally held the position of Prince Consort. His influence extended beyond his royal status as he played a crucial role in organizing the renowned Great Exhibition of 1851. However, tragedy struck ten years later when he succumbed to typhoid fever. Following Queen Victoria's passing in 1901, the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha succeeded the House of Hanover on the British throne. This extraordinary engraving portrays Prince Albert with his distinctive mustache and Victorian-era attire, reflecting both his German heritage and his significant impact on British history. Preserved by The Print Collector organization, this monochrome print serves as an enduring testament to Oscar Gustav Rejlander's exceptional photography skills. It allows us to glimpse into a bygone era where royalty reigned supreme and individuals like Prince Albert shaped nations with their vision and dedication.
