Hans Konrad Dieterich EKHOF (1720-1778), actor and theater director

6203109 Hans Konrad Dieterich EKHOF (1720-1778), actor and theater director, called " the father of German theater", 1854 (engraving) by BAorkner, Hugo (1818-97); (add.info.: For his innovative conception of the drama, in which he wanted to replace the declamatory style coming from the French Mannerist theater with a more naturalistic interpretation, entrusting to each actor, regardless of role, the task of collaborating in the show as a whole, and not only in the aspects related to his own part. Not at all in favor of improvisation, he imposed that the actors performances be subjected to rehearsals to be performed until approved by the stage manager. Portrait, colored version of an engraving by Hugo BAorkner (1818-1897), Germany 1854); Fototeca Gilardi; German, out of copyright

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the esteemed Hans Konrad Dieterich EKHOF, an influential figure in German theater history. Known as "the father of German theater". EKHOF's impact on the art form is immeasurable. The engraving, created by Hugo BAorkner in 1854, beautifully captures his essence and charisma. EKHOF revolutionized the dramatic landscape with his innovative approach to acting and directing. He sought to break away from the declamatory style prevalent in French Mannerist theater and instead championed a more naturalistic interpretation of drama. His vision involved every actor collaborating harmoniously within the production as a whole, regardless of their individual roles. Notably against improvisation, EKHOF emphasized rigorous rehearsals to ensure each performance met his high standards before being approved by the stage manager. This dedication to excellence elevated German theater to new heights during his time. The colored version of this engraving adds depth and vibrancy to EKHOF's portrait, allowing us a glimpse into his world and artistic prowess. It serves as a testament to his enduring legacy that continues to inspire actors and directors today. This remarkable print from Fine Art Finder is a valuable addition for any lover of theater or admirer of historical figures who have left an indelible mark on their craft.
