EDITORS COMMENTS
This engraving depicts Joan of Arc, a legendary figure from the 15th century. Born in 1411 and tragically passing away at the young age of 19 in 1431, Joan of Arc left an indelible mark on history. This artwork, created by an English School artist in the 19th century, beautifully captures her essence. In this print, we see Joan standing tall and resolute. Her eyes are filled with determination as she gazes into the distance. Clad in armor and holding a sword firmly in her hand, she exudes strength and courage. The details of her attire are meticulously etched onto the paper, showcasing both her femininity and warrior spirit. Joan's story is one of bravery and faith. She played a pivotal role during the Hundred Years' War between France and England when she claimed to have received divine guidance to help Charles VII reclaim his throne. Despite facing numerous challenges and skepticism from those around her, Joan fearlessly led armies into battle. This image was originally published as an illustration for the Historical Scrap Book in Cassel around 1880 but has been digitally cleaned to restore its original beauty. Now preserved within a private collection, it serves as a powerful reminder of Joan's unwavering dedication to her cause. As we gaze upon this engraving today, we can't help but be inspired by Joan's unwavering resolve and willingness to fight for what she believed in – qualities that continue to resonate centuries later.
