Created between 1902 and 1909 by Belgian artist Constantin Emile Meunier, this bronze sculpture pays tribute to the renowned French writer, critic, and journalist Emile Zola. The monument features a male worker standing tall with his tools in hand, symbolizing the hardworking spirit of the working class. Beside him stands a female figure holding a child at her breast, representing motherhood and fertility. The inclusion of children emphasizes the importance of family within society. Meunier collaborated with either Alexandre Charpentier or Felix Maurice Charpentier to bring this masterpiece to life. Unfortunately, this iconic monument was demolished in 1942.
