EDITORS COMMENTS
In this evocative photograph, the intense gaze of Dean Cox, a former star player for Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club, captivates the viewer. Cox, with his shaggy brown hair and determined expression, embodies the spirit of the team he represented with such passion and skill. Born in Hastings, East Sussex, in 1985, Cox began his footballing career at Brighton & Hove Albion's academy. He made his professional debut for the Seagulls in 2003, going on to make over 200 appearances for the club between 2003 and 2013. Cox was a versatile midfielder, capable of playing in various positions, and was known for his creativity, vision, and ability to score crucial goals. During his time at Brighton, Cox helped the team to promotion from League One to the Championship in 2011, and was named the club's Player of the Year in the 2010-11 season. He also represented England at various youth levels, including the Under-21 team. Despite his talent and dedication, Cox's career was not without its challenges. In 2011, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, but he battled through treatment and returned to the pitch just six months later, scoring the winning goal in Brighton's promotion-clinching game against Crewe Alexandra. After leaving Brighton, Cox went on to play for a number of other clubs, including Stevenage, Colchester United, and Crawley Town. He retired from professional football in 2018, but remains a beloved figure among Brighton fans, who continue to celebrate his contributions to the team's history. This photograph captures Cox in his prime, a moment frozen in time that encapsulates the energy, determination, and passion that defined his career as a Brighton & Hove Albion player.
